Oh wow...I just watched this again last week for the first time in probably 15 years. What a difference! It was no longer spooky or scary! For some reason, the writer of this movie decided that the vampires were somehow unable to talk normally once they crossed over, they were seriously like chewing on their own tongues when they talked, and additionally, they GROWLED!!! WHAT??? Vampires growling? And the head vampire is BLUE. Yes, powder blue, in an obvious plastic mask. Again, very random. And he never talks either just growls.
Now the little boy at the window is still pretty freaky (if any of you remember this movie, the supposed scariest part is the little boy just turned vampire, floating outside his friend's window and scratching at it)...BUT, ok, no one would let him in, and when he gets in he comes over to his victim, SLOW...AS...MOLASSES. WTF? Ok, so the victim could totally get away, call for help, alert the nation, whatever, he had plenty of time. Not realistic or suspenseful at all. Well, I guess we are talking about a vampire movie, so I guess realism is a perspective term here, but it should at least be a little bit believable that you might actually be in immediate danger if confronted by one of these creatures of the night.
And it wasn't just badly done becuz it was 1979. The director, Tobe Hooper, is the same guy who did Poltergeist, just 3 years later, and that still remains in my book as one of the scariest movies of all time. But yet I can't say that Spielberg is a better writer than King, so it's not that either.
Anyhow, I have also rented now the newer version of this movie w/ Rob Lowe (2004)...I'll let you know if they somehow made this movie into the scary story it actually was when it was a book. I'm still not so sure that anyone can really turn a Steven King novel into a good movie. And I'm a HUGE fan of the books, but trying to convert those written images to the big screen? Not sure it can be done well. But hey, I invite any screenwriter to prove me wrong. Until then, I'll be here waiting and tearing them apart. :-)

Welcome!
Hello and welcome to my first official blog! This blog is going to be all about movies, movies, and more movies. I have always wanted to be a movie critic, and so 'poof!' I hereby denote myself hired. :-) The blog link will be the movie title and then my blogs will be my reviews of each movie.
These things you should know about my opinion & taste before you delve into my critiquing.
1. I am a huge horror movie fan. I do, however, fully believe that lately no one can write them to be worth more than two cents! Blood DOES NOT EQUAL scary. Just b/c you have written the goriest movie on the planet, does not mean it is scary if you do not include a decent plot!!!
2. I do not believe in love stories. It will be few and far between that you will find a love story on here that I will actually give a good rating. Why, you ask? Because the only thing that love stories do for anyone is to make girls think that things like that actually happen the way they do in the movies, your perfect prince charming and all that garbage, and it leads to unattainable expectations in relationships! Wonder why the divorce rate is so high? Maybe it's b/c we've all been painted this pretty pink picture of the way it should be that is far from what is actually real.
3. 80's movies rock.
4. Vampires are my heroes. My favorite all time vampire movie you ask??? Combine #3 and #4 together and you get: FRIGHT NIGHT. It's a must see, must own, must watch repeatedly film. Coming in second would be : The Lost Boys.
5. I also like sharks. Discovery Shark Week...I never leave the house! So any movie w/ sharks eating people? Yeah, I'll give it a high rating. Vampires & Sharks...must be something about the teeth! LOL
6. Please don't let any of the above scare you away. I watch anything & everything that's a blockbuster hit & many that are not, (except the love stories as previously mentioned) so check here before renting. :-) Feel free to comment back, I love discussions! ;-)
